• 1.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Missing pages : We lost our first copy of this book...probably to the same evil elves that render Christmas lights inoperable over the summer. I was initially pleased to find an exact replacement. Upon delivery, I noticed the new printing of the book was square rather than rectangular. I believe a portion of each formerly beautiful drawing was cropped in the process. But what made our kids, who still remember at 5 and 7 most of the words, feel the presence of a scrooge-like editor was the disappearance of four complete stanzas in the middle. This page (photo above) with no printed copy is where the gaff begins. In this version, Santa skips calling each reindeer by name and there's no prancing and pawing of each little hoof. The absence of these classic lines led to our return of the book. ( Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2020 )
• 5.0 out of 5 stars from c -- GIANT repro of an old favorite - : This is an over sized, board book reproduction, of the 1949 original golden book that we grandparents had when we were young- only this is sturdy so my little sister cannot tear out the pages in this one! Tho likely she has outgrown that habit, it's safe from the grandkids as well. We kept this one for ourselves, and is so big, we used it as part of the decor in our game room, which has an 'oldies' themed tree. It's app 9'' x 11'', seems to be a faithful repro of the original, the binding allows it to lay flat while reading, but possibly the binding may not hold up to abuse. Since it is special to us I wouldn't leave it in with the mass of books the little ones have anyway, but read it to them when they visit, perfect size for that. Am happy to see that the company seems to be bringing out some board book repros of the 'oldies but goodies' that we loved as kids, will be buying more, especially the over sized ones. The one downside for me that this book is made in China, would have gladly paid more for these old classics to be made here. ( Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2016 )

I've kind of started a collection and I purchased this one this year. It is beautiful! I was amazed at the level of quality for something paid very little for. • 1.0 out of 5 stars from Persnicketyanne -- Very poor printing making what could be lovely illustrations very murky : When I found this book (The Night Before Christmas, illustrated by Gennady Spirin) I was very happy. I am a fan of Gennady Spirin. His illustrations are just wonderful. This book, however, is poorly printed. The illustrations are not sharp and clear, but dull and murky. The *poem* can be found anywhere. The hard copy version (old Golden Book and reproductions) had illustrations like in the picture that accompanies this Amazon listing. Timeless family tradition! : My four kids still insist that their dad reads from this book every Christmas Eve. The illustrations are beautiful, timeless and is an irreplaceable tradition in our house. They all work in the medical field, and we now have to schedule our Christmas Eve reading until whomever is working that night is free to listen in between their rounds. After watching them sit with their spouses this year, I realized that they all needed copies of their own so they wouldn't have to argue about who got our book someday...so I purchased 4 copies, and I've put them back for Christmas presents next year! We have read it every year ever since (he is 8 this year). Its such a classic and my children love listening to it on the run up to Santa coming. • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Annie -- A feast for the eyes, but ...! : I bought this to replace an old copy of the Clement C. Moore poem illustrated by D.Gorsline, and though there is so much fascinating detail in the colourful illustrations done by Mary Engelbreit, they are not so true to the content of the poem as the older book. For example, there is no trace of Father Christmas's clothes being 'all tarnished with ashes and soot'. And where is his 'little round belly' in the picture opposite this line? There is something like this on almost every page, where artist's licence has been over-used. There are elves everywhere, but none mentioned in the poem. • 3.0 out of 5 stars from jessica smith -- Okay : Bought a used one, started in discription it had been used, and may have signs of wear, it arrived with a rip in the cover and what looks like a big mark where sticky tape has been pulled of on the inside cover and it's left a big damaged mark.. my own fault for buying used.. will buy new from now on, just me being picky.. but over all the story is still readable and will bring lovely festive family reading on Christmas Eve..
